But apparently toilet seat manufacturers do because I have had seat after seat that simply didn't stand up to those basic demands.One of the problems I've found over and over, is that the bolts that hold the seat to the toilet tend to loosen up over time, so that the seat shucks around on the toilet. This was particularly bad when I was caregiving and my elderly charges moved around quite a bit. But honestly, in the course of doing whatever business you have to do when you're sitting on the toilet you're going to move around, and the more play the seat gets from the bolts the more likely it is to start to slide. I used to dread cleaning the toilet. Even with plastic gloves, spray bottle of strong ammonia solution, old toothbrush and gritted teeth -- I just hated it, but hated the thought of how unhygienic a dirty toilet is drove to to do it. Even with meticulous and perseverant maneuvering with the toothbrush, I can still see the gunk around the screws that held the seat on. Eeeeeew!With the easily removable seat, Still wearing plastic gloves, I take the whole seat off, put it in the shower. Spray the porcelain throne with the strong ammonia solution and let it work while I clean the seat. Turn on the hot water spray. Scrub the whole thing with a scrub brush. While it dries, turn my attention to the porcelain throne. By now, the ammonia has had time to work so I just wipe the screws and rest of the thing with toilet paper and flush.
